NOTE: CITI will send a validation message to your email account. CITI recommends using Firefox or Chrome. The CITI Program website requires both JavaScript and cookies to be enabled in order to function.

Setting up a CITI account
(or, how to log in to the CITI system for the first time):

  • Click .
  • Then click on the听鈥凌别驳颈蝉迟别谤鈥澨button on the upper right-hand side of the screen.
  • Step 1: Select 鈥溙切膌ogo在线入口鈥 from the 鈥淧articipating Institutions鈥 list. Start typing 鈥淛ohn Carroll鈥 to get the pull-down menu to appear. Agree to the Terms of Service.
  • Step 2: Complete the Personal Information section. Please use your 糖心logo在线入口 email address (@jcu.edu) as your primary email.
  • Step 3: Create your Username and Password.听Should you forget your password in the future, the system can reset it for you.

CITI Directions for User Name and Password:
Your username should consist of 4 to 50 characters. Your username is not听case sensitive; 鈥淎12B34CD鈥 is the same as 鈥渁12b34cd鈥. However, once created, your username will be part of the completion report and certificate!

Your password should consist of 8 to 50 characters. Your password IS case sensitive; 鈥淎12B34CD鈥 is not the same as 鈥渁12b34cd鈥.

After you've chosen a User Name and Password, complete the Security Question and Answer section.

CITI Directions for Security Question:
Please choose a security question and provide an answer that you will remember.听NOTE:听 If you forget your login information, you will have to provide this听answer to the security question in order to access your account.

  • Step 4: Country of Residence.听 Enter in your country of residence.
  • Step 5: Do you want CME/CEU credits for completing the CITI course?听 Applicable for people who need to update their official credentials from an external agency. Chances are you won鈥檛 be interested in this option. You will be charged a fee for the credits if you choose that option.
    Answer Yes,听No, or Not sure听to the question on interest in being contacted to complete a course survey or with marketing information.听
  • Step 6: List your institutional email address and your department.听听If you are a student, you can indicate your major or list undeclared. List your 鈥淩ole in Research鈥 from the drop-down list.

Selecting CITI Courses for the first time:

Select your learner group(s) from the following choices:

Question 1: IRB Required Courses (Human Subjects Research)

  • IRB Researchers and Sponsors 鈥 Basic Course
    Select this option if you are a faculty member, staff, or administrator who is submitting an application as the main researcher; or if you are a student who is proposing a study that will require full board review; or if you are a sponsor of a student application.听 Sponsors of student research听尘耻蝉迟听complete the 鈥淪tudents in Research鈥 module as one of the electives within this course.
  • IRB Student Researchers 鈥 Basic Course
    Select this option if you are a student who is submitting an IRB application for a minimal-risk research project, or if your instructor has required completion of this course.
  • IRB Members
    Requiredtraining for members of the 糖心logo在线入口 IRB.
  • Select 鈥淣ot at this time鈥 if you will be choosing different types of courses found below.

Question 2: Laboratory Animal Welfare Courses

  • Working with the IACUC is an optional course for those planning to conduct live animal research.
  • Essentials for IACUC Members is an optional course for members of the 糖心logo在线入口 IACUC.
  • 听No need to select anything if these modules are not applicable.

Question 3: Conflicts of Interest Course

  • 听For PHS-funded researchers and grant seekers
  • 听Select 鈥淣ot at this time鈥 if you do not want to take this course.

Question 4: Health Information Privacy & Security (HIPS) Course

  • For students in the Health Information Technology Track
  • Select 鈥淣ot at this time鈥 if you do not want to take this course.

Question 5: Responsible Conduct of Research Courses

  • 听For federally funded researchers and their workers.
  • 听Select 鈥淣ot at this time鈥 if you do not want to take this course.

Question 6: Good Clinical Practice

  • Training for researchers in biomedical projects or social & behavioral research.
  • Not required in order to submit an IRB application.
  • Often required for FDA or NIH-funded research.
  • Select 鈥淣ot at this time鈥 if you do not want to take this course.

You can select all the courses to demo them or take courses even if they are not applicable to your situation. After you have selected your curriculum, you will be asked to confirm your registration.

Selecting Additional CITI Courses

Once you log into CITI after you鈥檝e created your account, you can add courses to your already-selected CITI courses by:

  • Go to 鈥淢y Learner Tools for 糖心logo在线入口鈥 which is located听just below the list of 鈥淢y Courses鈥 on the Main Menu page.
  • Click听on 鈥淎dd a Course鈥澨
  • You will now have access to all available 糖心logo在线入口 CITI courses.
  • There is no limit to how many courses or optional modules you can complete!

Resetting your password and changing your login information

If you鈥檝e forgotten your password or username, you can have the system reset it by clicking on the little blue 鈥淔orgot?鈥 links on the听.

You can change your login information once you鈥檝e successfully logged in by clicking on 鈥淢y Profiles鈥 on the Main Menu page.
