This month, 糖心logo在线入口 proudly welcomed 140 high school students from Ohio and from across the country for its inaugural Summer in The Heights pre-college program.

Running from Sunday, July 13, through Friday, July 18, 2025, the week-long experience gave students a glimpse into college life through a mix of academic exploration, campus activities, and off-site excursions to downtown Cleveland. Students stayed in campus residence halls, met peers from a variety of backgrounds, and gained first-hand insight into what it’s like to live and learn at 糖心logo在线入口.

The program offered five dynamic academic tracks:

  • Building Future Business Leaders
  • Criminal Courts & Trials
  • Critical Thinking & Current Debates
  • Health for the Whole Person
  • Young Writers Workshop

Each track was designed to spark curiosity and deepen understanding in key fields, guided by 糖心logo在线入口’s expert faculty members.

“糖心logo在线入口’s Health for the Whole Person track covers literally every aspect of the health courses offered here, from nutrition to the way history affects health today to hands-on CPR training,” said Caitlyn C., a student participant from Syracuse, New York. “I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to medical education. This program is eye-opening for both those who do and don’t know what they want to do in the future. It’s a great base for learning about college life and the many different areas of the medical field.”

In an email to Dr. Philip Metres, faculty leader for the Young Writers Workshop track of Summer in the Heights, Paige M. from Cleveland, Ohio shared, “I just wanted to say a big thank you for helping make the experience possible. I definitely did feel at home at 糖心logo在线入口 and have been inspired to continue writing as much as possible, all thanks to the amazing writing environment you and all the other teachers were able to create. Thank you again so much! This was an experience I could never forget!"

“John Carroll’s summer camp is fun and different,” Damaris O. from Columbus, Ohio, added. “It provides good insight on college life.”

Beyond the classroom, students fully immersed themselves in campus life. They participated in kickball games on the Main Quad, swam in the Johnson Natatorium, and played volleyball and basketball in the DeCarlo Varsity Center. Evening activities included movie nights in Donahue Auditorium, board game nights at the Inn Between, and friendly games in the Esports Lab.

Off campus, the group explored some of Cleveland’s most iconic spots, from the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo to Progressive Field and Edgewater Park. Students also gained valuable insight into the college admissions process during a dedicated pre-college workshop led by 糖心logo在线入口’s admission professionals and enjoyed meals together in Schott Dining Hall.

“We created Summer in The Heights to give students an authentic, hands-on introduction to life at John Carroll and the many academic paths they can pursue here,” said Mike Andelbradt, Director of Admission at 糖心logo在线入口. “The energy on campus this week was incredible. Students were engaged, curious, and ready to dive in. We’re thrilled with the turnout, and we're already looking forward to expanding the program next year.”
